Google Earth

Google Earth at a glance

Google Earth is a globe-exploration app for viewing satellite imagery, terrain, buildings and places around the world. It suits travelers checking destinations, students studying geography, and anyone who wants a visual way to explore locations before visiting them. The app can move from a worldwide view to individual cities, landmarks and neighborhoods.

What it includes

• Satellite imagery for examining urban areas, coastlines, landscapes and remote locations.
• Three-dimensional views that add shape and elevation to selected terrain and buildings.
• Street View access for exploring certain places from ground-level, 360-degree viewpoints.
• Curated geographic content through Voyager, along with tools for creating and sharing map-based stories.

Who it suits

Google Earth is useful when a standard route map is not enough. Travelers can preview surroundings, educators can use it to illustrate places and physical geography, and researchers can compare the layout of locations from a broad visual perspective. Navigation relies heavily on moving, rotating and tilting the globe, so the experience is centered on visual exploration rather than turn-by-turn directions.
