What Health Connect does

Health Connect is an Android service for managing health and fitness information shared between compatible apps. It gives apps a common place to exchange records such as activity, sleep, nutrition and other supported health data, reducing the need for each service to keep separate connections. It suits people who use more than one health, fitness or wearable app and want those services to work with the same information.

Permissions and data access

The main user-facing role is control. Health Connect lets you decide which apps can read or write particular types of health data, rather than approving one broad connection without detail. It also provides access history, helping you review which apps have recently used health information. Data is kept on the device, making Health Connect a management layer rather than a social fitness platform or a standalone coaching app.

What it is not

Health Connect is not primarily a dashboard for analysing progress. The apps connected to it generally provide the charts, goals and interpretations. Support still depends on whether individual health and fitness apps have added compatibility.
