YouTube

What YouTube does

YouTube is a video streaming, viewing and publishing app for Android. It gives viewers access to videos across news, entertainment, education, music, gaming and many other subjects, while also supporting creator uploads and live broadcasts. It suits people who want one app for watching channels, following subscriptions and managing their viewing history, as well as creators who publish or interact with an audience from a phone.

Viewing and discovery

The app combines search with personalized recommendations based on viewing activity. Users can subscribe to channels, save videos, review watch history and continue watching across supported devices. Playback includes options such as captions and resolution selection, with the interface also covering short-form videos, livestreams and standard long-form content.

Creator and community features

Beyond playback, YouTube provides tools for recording, editing and uploading videos from mobile devices. Eligible channels can stream live and communicate with viewers through comments, live chat and other community features. The app also supports channel memberships and connects with YouTube Premium services, where available, for account-specific viewing benefits.
